Getting a large repair estimate can be stressful, especially when it’s unexpected. If you’re not sure the work is really needed, or the price surprised you, getting a second opinion is completely reasonable. Any good shop should understand that.
Think of it the same way you’d think about a big medical decision. A second set of eyes can confirm the diagnosis, offer a different approach or tell you whether the repair can safely wait. Sometimes the second shop agrees completely, and you can move forward with confidence. Sometimes they find a simpler fix.
When you compare estimates, try to compare the same things. Look at what parts are being replaced and whether they’re new, remanufactured or used. Check the labor charges, and ask what warranty comes with the repair. A lower price isn’t always a better deal if it uses lower-quality parts or comes with less coverage.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. A trustworthy shop will be glad to explain what it found, show you the worn or broken part if possible and tell you which repairs are urgent and which can wait a little while.
It’s also worth asking whether the problem was actually tested or just guessed at. A diagnosis based on testing is much more reliable than one based on a code alone.
We’re happy to look at your car and give you an honest second opinion. We’ll tell you what we see, even if that means telling you your car doesn’t need the repair you were quoted. Being straight with our neighbors is how we’ve earned their trust in Franklin for over two decades.
