Whether you’re heading up I-65, running errands around downtown Franklin, or making weekend trips out to Natchez Trace, your tires are doing all the heavy lifting. Spring is a great time to make sure they’re up for it.
Here’s what we check every spring and what you should be looking at too:
Tire pressure. Pressure drops about 1 PSI for every 10-degree temperature change. With the fluctuations we see here in Franklin from January through March, your tires may be significantly underinflated without triggering a warning light. Underinflated tires wear faster, reduce fuel economy, and handle worse in the rain.
Tread depth. Grab a quarter and stick it in the groove with Washington’s head pointing down. If you can see the top of his head, you’re below 4/32″ and it’s time to talk about new tires. Wet spring roads require good tread to channel water effectively.
Rotation. If you haven’t rotated in the last 5,000–7,000 miles, spring is the time. Regular rotation extends the life of your tires and ensures more even wear across all four corners.
Alignment. Potholes and rough road conditions from winter can knock your alignment off. If your car drifts to one side or your steering wheel isn’t centered, have it checked — bad alignment chews through tires fast.
Stop by Franklin Automotive and we’ll get your tires sorted out quickly. Good tires make every drive better.
